Although MMLA is in its infancy we are growing up fast.
Our partner at Metro (Fran Curbello) invited MMLA to participate in the Grand Opening festivities for the new Expo Line. We were all delighted just with the thought of being a part of such a historic moment in the City’s history. Little did we realize at the time MMLA would end up with 3 booth locations along the Expo Line route. In addition we were invited to share in providing music at these locations as well. How wonderful is that?
Our golden voiced executive committee member LeRoy Downs was the perfect person to curate this portion of the day and he did a fantastic job! LeRoy also opened the show Saturday morning by announcing Double G Nine Net an amazing hip hop orchestra that really got the party started. Please see the video below.
There’s more -- we also had the honor of providing music for the VIP reception held in the Exposition Park Rose Garden on Friday, April 27th. The incomparable Miguel Attwood-Ferguson performed brilliantly.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partner Metro for inviting us to take part in the Grand Opening celebration. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to meet community stakeholders from all over the county. We also met people visiting from other states and countries.
Make Music LA is all about the people and having an opportunity to meet so many along the Expo Line route was very special indeed.
Thank you to Fran and Aurea at Metro for being great guides throughout the process of exhibiting.
Thank you to members of the MMLA board for reaching out to the community and sharing their love of music, Genelle LeVin, Linda McShan, George Novinger, Bob Dallmeyer, Elson Trinidad, Mykesha Robinson, Lisa Herbert, Scott Crawford, Kevin Bannerman, Mark L. Hummer and Carlos, and our delightful interns Daisy and Lissette Ramierez. A HUGE thank you to LeRoy Downs. A very special thank you to the artists who performed on behalf of Make Music LA –Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Geoff Gallegos and Double G’s Nine Net, the Brian Swartz Quartet and the amazing Derf Reklaw Cuzmo.
Rumor has it that we may do this again. Stay tuned.
