Hello, I’m Dorsay Dujon, the founder of Make Music LA. I started Make Music LA mainly because of the need we have to educate our children.
Having lost music and art classes in most of our public schools, the schools that need it the most don’t get it. So now it’s up to us to ignite these young minds and spark their interest in the arts and to learn more about themselves.
I’m not a musician, but I grew up around it and was fortunate enough to receive music lessons on practically every instrument known to man. So I know what music can do for kids because I know what it did for me.
Music gives kids a sense of purpose. It gives them a sense of well-being and connectedness as they’re working in groups. But more than anything it helps them with everything else they’re going to do. It helps them with mathematics; it helps their cognitive skills, and boosts self-esteem.
Parents also need music in their lives, so they can appreciate, encourage, and participate in their kids’ musical experience. Projects like Make Music LA help engages families in events that are participatory, fun and deeply rewarding.
Make Music LA is more than just a day of free concerts. It’s about engaging our children and their families, to transform lives through music.
This is our 3rd year of Make Music LA, and each year it’s grown bigger, thanks to your participation. It’s truly been a labor of love.
So please join me in reaching this years’ goal of 500 concerts by participating in Make Music LA 2014!
